Age 6 or First Grade
Group One is designed for children who will be entering first grade in the fall. This special full-day program (9 a.m. - noon and 2 - 4 p.m.) is held Monday through Friday and utilizes the Children’s School and Sheldon Hall of Education facilities and schedule in the morning and the Boys’ and Girls’ Club facilities and schedule in the afternoon. It is intended as a transition between these two programs and includes active play, art activities, swimming and waterfront programs and special events. The children receive an orientation to both facilities during the first morning.
Group one is staffed with qualified college graduates, college-age assistants and high school age assistants. The same leaders stay with the children throughout the day. At Boys’ and Girls’ Club, certified waterfront counselors for swimming or other lakefront activities join Group One staff.

- Children may walk and/or ride a bike with an adult to Children’s School.
- Children’s School has a bus service available for children enrolled in the program (or in Group One in the mornings).
Take your child to Children’s School/Group One on his/her first day. The classroom teacher will give your child a bus tag which will state your child’s name and bus stop information.
Buses are staffed with adult bus monitors who ride with the children and check bus tags to assure that each child gets off the bus at the correct stop. An adult must be there to meet the child at the assigned stop.
